PROJECT

Construction of the road leading around the Potrerillos dam and rebuilding Provincial Road No. 82, section: Blanco Encalada – Potrerillos, Departamento de Las Heras y Luján de Cuyo, Provincia de Mendoza

CLIENT

Ministerio de Hacienda, Unidad de Financiamiento Internacional (UFI) de la Provincia de Mendoza

DESCRIPTION OF WORKS

The construction of a dam, part of the Mendoza River Power Plant in the locality of Potrerillos, has created an artificial lake with a surface area of approximately 1,300 has.

However, the project interrupted the course of Provincial Route No. 82. Part of it was left under water, meaning there was no through road linking the towns of Cacheuta and Potrerillos.

The work involved building the road leading around the Potrerillos reservoir and rebuilding Provincial Road No. 82.

Section I from tunnel no. 1 to the top of the Potrerillos dam measures 8.2 km in total and offers certain tourist attractions. The work involved improving the road surface, using concrete pavement or hot mix asphaltic concrete paving, vertical signage and horizontal markings as well as protective guardrails.

Section II from the top of the dam Potrerillos and the junction with National Road. 7. This is a new stretch of road which involved building a prestressed concrete bridge over the Seco Cacheuta River of approximately 150 m in length, as well as road tunnel 265 m long.

Section III corresponds to the Potrerillos Reservoir Road, from the hotel Potrerillos access to the junction with RP No. 82, which is also a new stretch of road, 4.6 km long, with 4 access points to the lakeside and any future developments planned.
